Im an American living in New Jersey and will be doing pre-pharmacy next year. If I go to the Univeristy of Toronto for pre-pharmacy can I transfer to a Pharmacy school in the U.S.? Will the credits transfer?

You more than likely cannot attend a Canadian school for pre-pharmacy. I was thinking of going to Vancouver for Pharmacy school and my pre-pharmacy doesn't transfer, so I am assuming it is the same in reverse. You may want to check their website or give them a call. Good luck.

Canadian schools don't offer "pre-pharmacy" so there in lies the problem. You have to choose a science major and complete pre-reqs through the science degree you choose.

The credits are considered equal by many if not all the US schools and should transfer without any difficulty. However, the pre-reqs for Canadian pharmacy is one year (general bio, chem, etc) whereas most US schools require 2-3 years of pre-reqs. UofT is also one of the biggest schools in Canada and you will have very little personal interaction with the profs of these courses, since the students will likely number around 500+. You should know which pharmacy program you want to go into, and see what they have to say about foreign credits.

I go to UofT.

We are indeed the largest pharmacy school in Canada. However, the MAXIMUM number of students per year is 240.

There is no "pre-pharmacy" at UofT. You can apply from any discipline but you must fulfill the requirements, which will change for the 2010 admission cycle (the cycle after the current round of admissions). You will need Statistics, a full-year Organic Chemistry (or 2 half courses), a full-year or 2 half courses in Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry, a full-year Biology, a full-year Calculus, and a full-year course in the Humanities or Social Science. You will also need high school English and high school or university Physics. Most applicants will require at least 2 years to finish the requirements.
