Fellow SDNers -- I am considering taking about three courses at UCLA extension with a goal to ace all of them. Do you think this would help? And if so, what courses would you advise I take? Also, would it be possible to get involved with research if I'm not a student? Thanks!

Fellow SDNers -- I received a 3.1 GPA for undergrad so to make my application more competitive for a post-bacc, I am considering taking about three courses at UCLA extension with a goal to ace all of them. I'm currently taking classes at UCLA Extension so maybe I can help. As far as your question, are you asking if taking 3 classes will boost your cumulative undergrad GPA? I mean, it won't make a significant dent to it (it's only 3 classes after all), but I'm sure getting 3 additional "A"s on your transcript won't hurt either.

Or, are you asking if taking UCLA Extension classes will make your acceptance to the Post Bacc program easier? I guess it depends on which Post Bacc program you are talking about. Why not call them directly and ask? If you are talking about UCLA Extension Post Bacc program, it's not a competitive process to enroll. You simply pay you fee and you're in. Anybody can do it. I guess the better question to ask yourself is, why are you doing this in the first place? What are your deficiences on the record, and which Post Bacc program will help you overcome them?

I'm not sure about the research piece. I know they offer it for current students but you mentioned you are not a student, so can't speak to that. PM me if you have any other questions.

Ditto to PTWOB02-- why are you looking to boost your app for post-bacc programs? What would be the point of a post-bacc for you? You might want to consider these questions, and we could probably help you out more if you give us the nature of your situation.

If you're taking three courses at UCLA Extension-- why not just do an informal post-bacc in general? That way you might save more money, do it at your own pace and have time to do more volunteering and shadowing.
