Would someone breakdown how the Pre-Professional Recommendation Committee works? I also have a specific question about it. If the Committee writes this letter, do they send it directly to AADSAS? or do you have to send separate letters to AADSAS? Also, will the letter they write go to your chosen dental schools? or do you have to send separate LOR/E to the schools yourself?

There is no set way for the pre-professional committees to follow so I can't say for sure, but I can tell you how it works at my school. Basically I have been asked to write a personal statement of 3-5 pages length talking about my goals, interests and motivation. I also needed to get 5 letters of rec, 2 from science profs, 1 from non-science, and 2 from dentists/others who you have worked with. I turned all of this in and after the semester is over the committee reviews my file and decides if they want to write me a letter or not. If they decide to write one for me, our pre-health adviser is responsible for posting it to my AADSAS application. It is my understanding that this letter counts for the all of the letters of rec that AADSAS requires, however I believe you can add 1-2 more if you would like to. Once it is on AADSAS you choose which schools you want to app to and it sends them notification and I believe they access right online.

Let me finish by saying that this is how it has been explained to me, and I am starting to go through it myself but I have not gone through the complete cycle yet. So maybe someone who has can add to what i have said. I hope this helps.

Thanks "Hardwork." Ya, that helps A LOT. Still, if anyone else has anymore information let me know.

I believe every school is a little different, but this is how it works at my school:

1. Complete a Composite Letter Request Packet
- personal statement
- resume
- unofficial transcript
- three recommendation letters from faculty
- AADSAS matching form

2. Committee reviews the Request Packet

3. Committee interview

4. Committee reviews the interview results
- At this time, each applicant is rated either Excellent, Outstanding, Satisfactory, Poor, or Request Denied.

5. Unless your request is "denied", the committee drafts a composite letter with original recommendation letters attached to it. This is then reviewed by the entire committee, career center, and the writing center.

6. Once proofreading/review is completed, the composite letter is sent to AADSAS.

7. AADSAS sends a copy of the composite letter to the dental schools you are applying to.

Hope this helps.

SuperDuper, or anyone else that knows, what exactly is the AADSAS Matching Forms you're talking about? I'm looking through my Recommendation Packet and don't see that here.

the matching forms are something you print out from your AADSAS application. that means the earliest you can get the matching forms are may 15th.

i think this might delay the application process for SuperDuper beacuse he needs to wait for the application to open. then, he has to print the matching forms and give it to his commitee. i think that process will take a while? i already had all my lors ready to be sent when i application opened.

Yes, my application process was delayed by 4 weeks because of my school's committee. I was extremely frustrated but I got into my top choices, so I am not complaining anymore 😀😉🙂
