I know you need one year of bio with lab, one year general chemistry with lab, one year organic with lab, and one year physics with lab. Now the rest is a little unclear to me. For the english requirement, what classes are DO schools willing to take? I took a technical writing class and a public speaking class, would this suffice? This is also eight credits right? Another thing, for the math requirement can stats 1 and 2 replace the calculus 🙂scared🙂 requirement? Thanks.

For most schools that require X number of credits of math any college level math course will generally suffice (stats, college algebra, trig, etc.). I can only think of one school off the top of my head that actually requires Calc I (USUHS). Your best bet is to checkout the websites of all the schools you're interested in, and if that doesn't answer your question as to what specifically is needed in regards to pre-reqs contact the schools themselves.

Okay thank you. Do you know about the English courses? When they say English courses do they mean writing courses? Thank you.

Public Speaking for an English requirement. Does this sound right to you?

It was classified as a writing intensive course at my university. My question, if you read above, is when they list English as a requirement do they mean writing courses or any english course, such as a literature course.

They usually mean English Writing, Composition, Literature, etc. The typical courses coming out of an English department. The requirements for those is usually 6 credits (2 semester courses).

Some schools also require biochem (3-4 credits) and behavioral sciences (6 credits).

I guess your school doesn't understand what public speaking is if they consider it a writing intensive course. Generally, if a course falls under the department of English, it will be considered English for all purposes. Maybe calling AACOMAS would help. Generally speaking, English is meant to be writing courses or literature.

You need to write all your speeches in a technical format and hand them in. For all intensive purposes I wrote as much if not more in that class then I did in my technical writing course..oh well.

How many English classes are required for gen ed requirements at your school? Most if not all of the schools in my region require at least 6 credits (two semesters) of English/Writing courses in addition to Comm.

Yeah.. public speaking is a communications course, not an English course. Does your college not have course codes (for instance my public speaking course was COM 115)? Generally you would consider an English course one with a code like 'ENG X'

Writing I and II are the standard courses. If I were you, I would take those.

I assume a course in the comparative literature dep would suffice? The course is into to short fiction.

This depends on the school. I was an English major and public speaking was a required course for my major and part of the English department courses.

I stand corrected.

Still, I am unsure that it is applicable as an English course for the AACOMAS. Here is info from http://www.aacom.org/Documents/AACOMASInstructions.pdf instructions regarding the matter:

"English Requirement: If you fulfilled your undergraduate institution's English requirement with a course(s) outside of the English Department, list the appropriate course(s), up to six semester hours, as English. Make a notation that this course(s) was approved as fulfilling your English requirement by your institution at the end of the Personal Statement. Contact the AACOMAS office with any questions or irregularities."

Also, here is a list of English courses from that same link, although I don't think these are the only applicable courses...
