I am hoping to apply this fall to begin summer 2015 and I still have quite a few pre-reqs to complete. I took separate Anatomy and Physiology courses at NYU, and did well in both, but neither course has a lab component. Should I limit my choices and only apply to schools that don't require a lab, or should I try and squeeze in the a&p sequence??

Also, I will only have grades for 7 of my pre-reqs available by the time I apply this fall. My gpa for undergrad and for my post-bacc are both pretty high, but will admissions be looking for more grades? I have considered waiting and applying next year, but I would really prefer to apply this fall.

Some schools will allow you to have a few in progress classes when you apply.

However, real world evidence on this and other forums shows that your chances of acceptance are significantly hurt by having several outstanding classes.

You take a risk by applying with that many outstanding

even though applying in the fall sounds fine since most deadlines aren't till much later in the school year, most applicants apply as early as possible(early summer). missing pre req will hurt you. and if they are not in progress then that hurts even more. without the lab component i think your choices in schools is rather limited.

but applying isn't going to hurt you except financially

Most schools require 8 credits of A&P, which means you will need the lab component. The lab will help you prepare for graduate school.

Thank you guys for the advice, I think I am going to wait a year and make sure I have the most competitive application possible. I was wondering if anyone had advice on some other things I can do over the next two years that will make me a stronger candidate. I am going to have a full year without taking classes, and am hoping to do something more fulfilling then just waiting tables during that time. I would love to travel/teach out of the country, but that might be tricky since I will need to be local for interviews. I was thinking a fitness certifications might be fun and useful?

Any advice appreciated!

All work is fulfilling if there is a demand for it. Do the best damn job you can and maybe earn an LOR from your manager. Waiting tables shows you can multitask, communicate well, and deal with difficult people.
