I'm a chemistry and psychology major. Due to having a double major, I really didn't have the space to take high-level biology classes (only biochemistry and cell and moleculur bio).

A lot of these schools I'm looking at highly recommend these high level bio classes and some even require it.

I'm graduating this May (applying in the summer) and taking a year off. Do you guys recommend me taking high level bio classes at a community college? Or should I not worry if my GPA is average and DAT is well above average?

Thank you.

given that you did chemistry, you should be able to handle Bio courses. If got bored during the year off, it will definitely help to have some micro , anatomy and immuno classes.

Can you actually use "high level bio" and "community college" in the same sentence without having an oxymoronic concept?

Well the CC I'm looking at is College of Dupage and they do offer intro to genetics and Anatomy and Physiology....I guess they aren't as high level as University bio classes but they can't hurt can they?

My final semester at U of I will include taking 3 psychology classes to finish my psych major. SHould I not complete this second major and instead take bio classes?

What are your motives for double majoring in Psych? Is it inc case you don't get in dental school? Or is it because you genuinely were interested in Psych? If you were just interested in Psych...then do you need the degree? Or can you just stick with the classes that you have already taken?

I mean, I think that the upper level Bios would help you out greatly. When I saw that the first year for a dental student was Micro, Physio, Anatomy, and Biochem...I cannot tell you how happy I was that I am already enrolled in all of those courses. It might not make be completely competent in those classes, but it will sure make me happy that I took them.

iono if your university will let you do this, but at my school we are allowed to graduate in spring and still take some classes the following summer at the university if we need to. if money isn't too much of an issue for u, i would say finish ur psych major (im sure u've come so far it'd be a bummer not to finish) and take 3-4 upper div. bio classes during the summer (choose from: physio, anatomy, immunology, microbiology, histology, genetics, molecular biology etc.)

I would check if your area community college offers upper-level bio classes. Most don't even offer them, you have to attend a university for those courses. It will definitely help you to take those classes and get A's in them, especially if you have an average GPA. Good luck!
