Hey guys! so I have a question regarding pre reqs. I am currently a Sociology major and I have a high GPA. I started my Soc degree but after volunteering I have realized Physical Therapy is for me! I have decided to get my B.A. In soc (which I am also passionate about) and then take my pre req for PT school. My question is, I have only 19 units left to graduate which with summer school I can graduate early and only 8 pre req classes left. Would it be better to graduate, then take the pre reqs, or should I finish them simultaneously? Thanks

I think it would be better to graduate and do the pre reqs simultaneously, otherwise you either do the pre reqs at a community college or pay more for them. While PT schools will take CC credits, I got in and all miine are at a CC, a lot of them still prefer a 4 year university and it might give you a leg up.

My advice would be to look into the schools that you are most interested in applying to and contact their admissions coordinators. Both posts above are correct, some schools do prefer as many prereqs being taken at 4 years vs CCs, but if all the schools you want to apply to don't care then I wouldn't waste the money on taking the prereqs at your 4 year.

I took almost all of my pre-reqs at a CC, and none of the schools I got into cared. I think it's all about your story and what you plan on doing with your career, and how well you can articulate your vision. Your high GPA from a previous course of study will help; PT admission committees know all about people deciding to change careers.

My recommendation would be to graduate asap, find a CC where you can pay $40/credit rather than $400, and continue gaining experience as an aide/volunteer.

Best of luck to you!!

Finish one thing at a time. Get good grades as an undergraduate, get your sociology degree, and start killing those pre-reqs at your CC. Schools don't care where you take the pre-requisites. You'll save yourself a fortune by going to the CC and your classes will be smaller. Don't get me started about the advantages of a CC over a University.
