I have a year left for undergrad - BS in Systems Management (current line of work). Given my ripe old age (late 30's) , is it wise to load up on my science pre reqs the remaining year ?(I believe i can get a majority of pre reqs in under LA electives) I don't have the luxury of time to spend a few years doing postbacc. I want to talk to my advisor about my plans but want to have my ducks in a row.

I would hold off on graduation to take the pre-reqs. It allows you to continue receiving aid if you are currently... I'd take them now, but really you want to get As in them, so don't take more than you can handle

Good point SBB - Thank you!

To get that extension on your grad date, think about adding a minor that requires the med school prereqs. Like bio or chem or biochem etc.

I suggest taking at least one class in bioinformatics or healthcare administration/IT. This is a big scary area of flux in medicine and people who aren't intimidated by IT can have a leg up in med school interviews (certainly true for me). Also look into IHI and the checklist movement - that's classic sys mgmt.

Best of luck to you.

I was researching minors - definitely and good idea. I didn't think of healthcare admin piece..what's IHI?
Thanks MidLife!
