Hello all,
The way it looks like for me now, I will be taking bio II while studying for the MCATs and sit for the exam in April/May 2014. Will this is be an issue?
Also, a pre-med advisor told me that med schools frown upon pre-reqs taken during summer? If I can take Bio 1 during summer then the aforementioned scenario may be avoided. Please advice.

Best of luck to everyone.

Thank you.

Pre reqs taken at an easier school than your home institution are often looked down upon, but as long as it is the same course number covering the same material at your main school, there is no reason it would be looked down upon at all. Pre med advisors often don't know what they are talking about, so don't worry about that at all.

If you have to, taking bio II while studying is doable, as long as you don't have too many other obligations and can really concentrate on getting the A and prepping for he MCAT.

Is the school you'd be taking Bio I at a 4yr institution? The schools will typically say they "prefer" the core classes to be taken at 4yr schools, not CC's. But, you do what you can...

CU Boulder has a post-bac pre-req program that involves taking Chem 1 and 2 over the summer ... I don't see why it would matter that you're taking the courses in the summer as long as they are the same courses. If anything, summer courses are more rigorous because of the shorter schedule.

Hey LPpostbacc,
I don't know yet where I will be taking the Bio pre-reqs. I will be moving in the near future and if I get access to a 4 yr institution, then definitely will be taking it there. However, as of now I am taking Orgo I at a CC because I don't have a 4 yr inst near me. The closest one where they offer night classes is almost a 100 mile commute.

I am aware some inst prefer 4 yr, I hope my academic background, results and the fact that it's not that old (BS 2008, MS 2011), will negate some of that CC effect. It's better than doing it online. I will try my best to rock the MCAT.
