Are colleges real strict when reviewing your grades..specifically your pre-reqs? Do they frown upon B's and C's? Just curious...!

That's a really good question, I don't think they'd frown upon B's, maybe C's? But I don't really know, soooooo.~ *Waits for someone with experience to post a reply.*

Yes. Most times your pre-req GPA is on the top of the list of determining factors. It's OK if you get a B or C depending on what class it was in and how it effects your pre-req GPA. For the schools I know about the pre-req GPA was around a 3.5.

OK, specifically, I had a C in calculus and a B in history and I am attending UH. But, I had a lot of extracurriculars, made a 91 overall on the PCAT and still had around a 3.6/3.7 prereq GPA, so it all has to weigh out. Get A's if you can, you'll have a better chance at getting in, remember you are competing with other students.

It's all about context, and GPA isn't the only factor. I have a sea of B's and C's (even an F in there) and managed to get two acceptances. Then again, I rocked the PCAT's, interview, and the final year and a half of school (GPA-wise).

A's and B's are ideal in prereqs. but a few C's are ok. If you have a C or two or three, be ready to explain why you received these grades because every ad. comm. will ask you at your interview.

You def. do not need all A's in your prereqs. 🙂

I received 3 interviews out of the 3 schools I applied to....1 acceptance so far & I am still waiting on the other schools.

My gpa had a few C's, more B's and mostly As....I think you should of course strive to achieve A's in all your courses, but don't think that a couple C's are going to hurt you.

If someone is consistantly getting D's, F's, etc (in exception to outside circumstances that may cause your grades to drop).....they may not be fit for pharmacy school

btw...I was not asked by ANY of the schools to explain a C, my grades were not the topic at all

Applied to UCSD, USC, and UCSF, accepted to USC so far

what about.. course load in relation to pre-reqs and grades?

It really depends on the school many have different pre-reqs), but usually B's are pretty acceptable and maybe a couple of C's depending on what class( usually worse if you get Cs in math or science). I got my BS so they usually look at the pre-reqs first but at the same time they will look at all the other sciences to make sure I did well. So maybe you don't do great in freshmen chm but you rocked BIOchm... they notice those things. Over all, GPA and PCAT open the door but they want an overall good package. I had about 5 B's and 2 C's in my pre reqs during my first two years then almost all As a maybe a b or two in my last two years of undergrad and I got accepted to a school and so far 4 interviews and no rejections

A is Acceptable
B is BAD
C? What is a C?

It's not all about GPA. I got in with 2F's and several C's and W's. My overall GPA was 3.5. And I was never asked about any of these grades during my interviews.

Well all my interviews so far have been closed application. That may explain why some people have not been asked about grades.

Um, no. As long as you have a stellar PCAT score and are in activities that emphasize leadership, you should be in good shape.

seriously, as long as your gpa is above 3 and you have not committed any felonies, you're very competitive.

I hope anything less than A is acceptable. It seems like all my pre-reqs were B+... I swear every freaking class I typicall always got like 88-89 percent. Those A's would have made a huge difference. Even when I got A's, they were most A-... BS...

Anyways... I had a quesition, Im taking some post bac classes to improve GPA, and I was thinking about taking Immunology and Calculus 2. My question is whether or Not Calculus 2 will contribute to science GPA or not? Thanks

It depends on the school. For some schools it really does matter, along with where you went to school. At one interview I had, they specifically mentioned the difficulty of the school where I completed my undergrad, and seemed to be impressed with the heavy load I took, even though my grades were Bs and Cs (my schools doesn't readily hand out As and I was accepted). At some schools, I dont think they care if you took your classes at X Community College or Harvard... although I think it says something about the school if they take the trouble to take things like load and caliber of school into consideration.

All of these people are competeing with you for that one spot at that one school you will apply to in the future...knowing this fact ...you should answer your own question..........survival of the fittest...........

Well if the average GPA is 3.6 or whatever, that shows that a grade lower than an A- (3.7) was made. Therefore I would say it is acceptable.
