I have a few pre-reqs to complete for vet school. This fall is most likely out as the universities near me are infamous for being difficult to get classes as a non-degree student (I already graduated). I need to spend my time getting experience anyways though because I have little so far. I was hoping to work full time through christmas as a vet tech in the fall semester and then either stop working or cut my hours next spring semester in order to take the pre-reqs. I am banking on the fact that I can send an adendum to the schools I apply to in order to give an experience hour update as I will be working full time and acrue significantly more hours after the october deadline.

Now with vet school admissions, do they factor in what classes you will be taking after you apply? Meaning if I say on my app that I will take biochem and microbio and lets say at this school microbio is a recommended course, will they give me preference over someone who says they are just taking biochem before being admitted(and also never took microbio)? In general, do schools make you get a certain grade in the pre-req courses that you take after you apply if you want to be accepted (it would be nice to know while taking the course)?

At this point my IS school has a very low IS acceptance rate and requires two extra classes most schools do not require. I am unsure whether I should possibly continue with experience next spring to get more hours to add when schools make admission decisions (and thus not apply to my IS) or do less hours and take two extra classes and obviously apply to my IS. I also am unsure regarding whether I should take biochem in the fall so I could get a transcript to them before they make decisions in the spring or not. Any thoughts?

You need to check with each school you are applying to. Some schools will only allow you to take one pre-req the spring semester before you start, and you dont want to be screwed over.

As Laszli said, it is definitely school dependent (as usual), might help if you let us know your IS school.

Personally, I had 5-6 pre-reqs to finish up when I submitted my application. I only applied to schools where that was allowed and also that allowed you to take classes right up to the summer.

If that is allowed then you might as well just continue with your experience for now, to help you have the most competitive app possible.

Most schools require a C in all pre-req classes taken after acceptance (transcripts required), and get updated fall transcripts often before a decision is made.

They may ask for your fall transcript to see what grades you made that semester. Those grades will probably still influence your application since interviews are often sent after the fall semester is completed. As for the spring semester, if you get in, I believe you only need to make the minimum grade for a prerequisite.

This is from my experience, but I agree more with the other post. Check with the school! See if they have a timeline for the application process. Also, some school look the post-application semesters differently for IS and OOS.

It differs so much from school to school that is hard to say generally. You might specify the school and I'm sure you'll get some first-hand responses.
