When do med schools require pre requisites to be completed by? Does it have to be done before you apply or can it be done anytime before you start medical school? The admissions requirements on websites from schools I've looked at aren't very clear about this.

Thanks

You need to have them done by the time you matriculate.

What happens if you spend an extra semester in college, or even a year for transferring purposes. Would that effect my chances of being accepted into medical school?

It will probably affect when you can apply, but I can't see why it would affect your chances. There are about a million people who take longer than four years in school, take gap years, are nontrad, etc. who get into medical school just fine.

there are a few schools that require pre-reqs to be completed by the time you apply (temple is the only one that comes to mind, but I think there are a few others). however the overwhelming majority of med schools will require them by the time you matriculate, NOT when you apply.

Most need them done by the time you matriculate - a few need them done by the time that you apply which is a bit silly imo. It would behoove you to take most of them prior to MCATs.

That's fine - it'll just affect when you apply.
