I'm taking A&PI but I also want to graduate on time since my mom agreed to only pay for 4 years of college and nothing more. I want to take A&PII over the summer in the community college back home since if I take it during the school year I might not graduate on time. Thing is, I failed A&PII in my current college.

Plus that would give me the opportunity to re-take a couple of D's. What should I do?

Thanks

Hey so here's my advice:

Depends on you cumulative GPA (especially last 60/90 sem/qtr unit gpa). If it's over like 3.3 then retaking anat and physiology again may not allow you to finish your degree THAT is the most important thing. No degree no OT school no matter what.

However...

Getting into Anat and Phys at a California Comm. coll. is reeeeally hard. The way it works is the longer you've been attending community college the higher priority you get for registration. Therefore when you go back you get last pick and those classes fill up fast. Alsooo community collge A/P courses always require you take Chemistry first.

That being said make you choice. If I were you i'd finish my degree first at ALL costs, that's the most important thing, you'll never get a shot to do that again. Oh well if you have one F grad schools always take your highest score on everything even GRE.

You might have to wait a qtr or two but finish your degree first and then worry about A and P.

Good luck!

Since you live in PA, you can take A&P 2 at your community college, if possible. Another option is, if you don't need A & P 2 to graduate, then you should graduate on time and then go back to take the course over the summer, as a post-bac. By doing this, however, your undergrad GPA won't change but I believe there are numerous OT programs that look at your overall undergrad GPA which includes all re-takes. I am currently retaking all the pre-reqs that are below B at my community college, and I originally took them at my 4-year university. Hope this helps!

thanks to both of you!

mgOT, what are/were your stats looking like?

Welcome, if it's possible to get the second half of your A and P at a PA comm. college then finish your bachelors at all costs, and exactly schools weigh your pre-req GPA separate from your last 90 unit gpa.

Good luck.

My undergrad GPA is 2.9, now ~3.1
pre-req GPA is higher but still taking a couple courses so would say ~3.5-3.7 depending on the program

My word of advice on overall GPA is contact the OT admission and ask if the required cum. GPA is just for undergrad or also includes pre-req and other courses (post-bac). Some programs have lower GPA cut off like 2.75 or 2.8, and there are some that only look at your last 45 or 60 semester credits.

I took A&P I & II at a community college the summer after I graduated. I paid out of pocket, which stung a little, but I figured it's cheaper than taking it at a four year college. I'm really glad I waited until the summer to take it- I wasn't taking any other classes and could focus all of my attention on A&P. It was really intensive- 4 days a week/4 hrs a day, but you can get the course over with in 6 weeks.

But DEFINITELY finish your degree on time! It's totally fine to take a little extra time to finish up prereqs at a community college!

I decided that this summer I will take A&PII, Lifespan Development, and Abnormal Psychology.

I might as well get my pre-reqs out of the way.
