Paid pre-residency research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. I. Pikuleva (Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Case Western Reserve University, http://case.edu/med/ophthalmology/BasicResearch/IrinaPikulevaResearchPage.html) to continue the ongoing projects concerning retinal cholesterol metabolism. One project involves ophthalmic characterization of different knockout mice. Candidate will gain experience in various ophthalmic techniques such as optical coherence tomography, electroretinography, and immunohistochemistry and will have the opportunity of presenting work at the ARVO conference. The second project represents a clinical study elucidating whether levels of cholesterol in the aqueous humor correlate with those in the circulation and can serve as a marker for age-related macular degeneration.
