If you are looking for a way to boost your resume when applying to osteopathic medical schools, consider starting a Pre-SOMA (Pre-Student Osteopathic Medical Association) chapter at your undergraduate school. SOMA is the student affiliate organization for the AOA, with a purpose to improve the quality of healthcare delivery, to educate osteopathic medical students, to espouse the ideals of osteopathic medicine, and to establish lines of communication among health care professionals. Pre-SOMA is the first step to becoming a leader in SOMA and the osteopathic community. To get some more information, visit studentdo.com!

uh, ok!

Seriously, this is a great idea. Might be difficult if you don't have a lot of folks who are into osteopathic medicine, but I joined individually and it's a really good way to get to interact with real, live med students so you can find out about schools before you even apply to them.

Hi everyone,

I visited Studentdo.com and am happy to see that FINALLY they are trying to focus on creating Pre-SOMA chapters. I started one at UCSD 5 years ago and helped start another at San Diego State University as well. Though the club at UCSD is inactive this year (I guess some poor leadership the year prior) I'm hoping it will re-start.

If anyone would like some advice as to how we did it, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Here's the website:

There is an Pre-SOMA at MSU and it has been around for 6 years or so. It is still going strong.
