I was wondering what anyone thought of the pretest books esp pharm and beh. sci for step 1? I wanted some question books that are subject specific and these semed like the only ones. I have robbins q book for path, lange for micro, and then i thought about using pretest for pharm and beh science and possibly physio. any thoughts on those pretests?

the new pretest pharm is written by my pharm professor. he is very much a "big picture" guy so i hope that's how the new edition is. the older edition written by someone else had a reputation for being too picky. i put in an order and should be getting the new edition soon so i can tell you how it is once i get a chance to work through some problems.

The last edition came out in August 2004 according to amazon.com. Is your professor Shlafer?

His preface in the pharm pretest book is pretty funny, he basically rips on med student evaluations of his test questions and says that a second year student isn't in a position to know what and what isn't high yield. I agree with what he has to say, but it's still pretty comical.

yup. and regarding discobolus' post, he is quite vocal about his opinions. i think he has a 20 page rant posted on his website about the school's so-called "new curriculum". at least his lectures were entertaining, and he tells you exactly what he thinks is important, unlike some of the other professors around here to just ramble on about stupid stuff and take questions straight out of their ass.

Sounds a lot like a pathology professor we have here. Unfortunately the guy gave his last lecture of his career today as he is retiring (some of us wonder if it was "forced"), we gave him a standing ovation.
