Hello everyone,

I am about to start pre-writing my personal statement for the 2019/2020 cycle. However, I have a question about whether or not I should include my recent history as a pre-pharmacy student.

For context, I was originally a pre-med student, but got discouraged about whether or not I had the ability to get into medical school. Because of that, I switched to pre-pharmacy. I had applied and gotten into several pharmacy schools, even put down a deposit and started to fill out matriculation paper work to attend a school for 2018. However, I realized that pharmacy is not what I want to do (for many reasons) and told the school I'm not going. I have since been really passionate and motivated about going to medical school and have participated in some activities that I feel like have solidified that passion.

I personally feel like this whole process/revelation I had is pertinent to my journey to apply to med school. But I want to know if this is something I should discuss in my personal statement? Or would changing my mind at the eleventh hour come across as flaky? Or would to make me stand out a little more? I don't know, you tell me!

Thanks everyone!

I wouldn't talk about it since the common consensus here is to not bring more attention to negatives.

Most schools will ask you if you've applied/accepted to other professional health-related schools so you're going to have to disclose it there.

Out of curiosity, why would you consider this to be a negative?

My opinion:
Cuz you change your mind the last minute and they don’t like that! I don’t see how that will be helpful in answering “why medicine”.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I was kind of thinking it might show that I'm more interested in medicine than pharmacy? Like I had a sure-thing in terms of going to school, but decided against it because it wasn't truly what I wanted to do.

I have this image on scrubs where JD is dating this girl (medical school) then goes to the bar and meets this girl (pharmacy school) and almost sleeps with her then goes back to the first to tell her I want you even though I almost went with this other girl but baby I chose you

Sorry I’m bored.

I suppose I see your point! Guess I'll need to think of another way to seem more unique/interesting.

Did we pretty much sum this up already or does anyone have other opinions or ideas about how this could be spun in a positive light?

Agreed with the above, if I were reading it I would think it shows a lack of commitment, but I'm also applying right now so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
