this is a question for all you interviewing now (excluding those who took the MCAT in aug 2004):

when you talked to an advisor or someone on an adcom and they told you either "yeah, sure you will get interviews at schools x, y and z" or "don't count on getting interviews ANY where!!" where they right?

was anyone told they would get interviews at even the "easier schools" but hasn't heard yet?

thanks!

The process seems random sometimes, schools that you think you'll get into won't even interview you while some schools that you thought you had no chance at will.

The dong's right on the money.

This is how specific my pre-med advisor was, "You'll get in somewhere." And yes, she was right.

My pre-med advisor said the same thing. And kudos to him. He was fantastic during the process.

Jason, who's your advisor at WashU? I talked to Dean Herman

I'm an engineer. The Eng. School has its own. I've heard not-so-good things about Deans Stahl and Herman. But since most of our guys get in, they're definitely more than proficient if not very good.

fortunately, my pre-med advisor was pretty much on target with his predictions. not to boast, but he said i would get into a good school, and i did 🙂 .

My advisor said it could go either way. I might get in, I might not. She told me to apply to all the lower tier schools and implied I had no shot at any of the top schools. She made me feel so dumb and like I would be lucky to even get an interview at my state school. Well, 10 interviews and 4 acceptances later, I think she underestimated me. I should send her a Chirstamas card telling her all about how much I enjoyed my visit to Duke (granted, she's probably right... I'll probably be rejected, but hey, at least I got an interview).

My advice: Advisors have good intentions and try to be realistic. But they aren't always right. So don't give up on going to top schools just because someone else thinks you're a crappy applicant. :luck:

Ah, I really don't like using the life sciences advising system mostly bc I've heard that the advisors have tried to discourage people from applying before or even discouraged them from going in to medicine. The one time I met Dean Herman was when she said this to me, hahaha, so I guess they are proficient? 🙂

All right... more than proficient...

leiface, I'm sending you good vibes from a fellow WashUer... good luck with the rest of the process and congrats on your acceptances! :luck: 👍

Thanks! And best of luck to you too, yay WashU! :luck:

She was probably a premed who quit cuz she thought she didn't have a chance...

But that would be the best revenge ever... :meanie:

I don't know .... I don't ask the counselor that often ... I just apply using my "logical reasoning" ... hopefully it will turn out well
