hi everyone, i'm new in this forum.🙂
i'm starting medical school this june.

here's the thing: i found out i was pregnant a month after being accepted in medical school. im due around late november or the 1st week of december.
i realize that it is hard for me to be pregnant and take care of a child during medical school, but i believe i can do it. 👍

i just want to know if philippine med schools are a little considerate on circumstances like this. are exams scheduled during my due time? 😕
(1st week of december) im worried that i might miss an exam just because im in labor. well, that would be very frustrating now, wouldnt it?
so there, do share your thoughts. i'd really appreciate it. thank you!😍

You can take a leave of absence before your due date. Pregnancy (& delivery for that matter) is a valid reason for a leave of absence. Just make sure to inquire from your school registrar regarding their policies.

I had batchmates who were pregnant during our 4th yr (clerkship) and they went on LOA and returned a few weeks after giving birth. It's doable.

However, bear in mind, that the first few months of medical school will be your adjustment period and the added stress of studying, class schedules, and exams can cause stress to your baby. I wish you all the best. Congratulations on your new baby and for getting into medical school. God bless.

thanks for the insight. yes, i am a bit scared about the added stress stuff, but i really dont have anything better to do (aside from have/take care of this baby). in a positive light, maybe ill pass on some of these medical education unto my child. haha!

anyway, thanks again for that 🙂

Hey there,
im a 3rd year med student from ust.I actually knew 2 people in my section who were pregnant while in school! One of them was even close to term! Her tummy was huge. She passed the year...She was able to have her baby in april which was already our summer break.Just to give you some positive reinforcement. Its not over just cuz you are pregnant.Just be sure you are legally married with your partner....especially if you go to a catholic school like UST. If you are not married and you are pregnant...in ust they will see that as immoral and as that girl had told me....they will debar you.Anyway, best of luck in med!!!You can do it! Others have.

P.S. 1st week of december is usually shifting week...week of exams for us.im sorry to say

depends on the medical school you go to. each medical school has their own "time table" set for the entire year, including the supposed schedule of exams. if it coincides with your EDC (expected date of confinement) you have to speak with your faculty members to settle this issue. though i don't think some schools (like UST) will let you take the exams ahead of the others, in order to avoid "leakage". make-up exams are so tough, "out of this world", & very rarely given. i believe the best way is to pray that your EDC will not fall during your exams (as others would call it as "hell week").

i agree with what phlipsquad said. if u are going to UST & u are pregnant, you should be married! or else, you'll be kicked out. i had 3 classmates who got pregnant and yes, they changed their family names. no excemptions!

thank you so much for the reply 🙂
im actually married, but im also not enrolled in UST. so i guess ill be praying that my baby will decide to come out after the exams 🙂 whatever the school's calendar is..

bluedsky: im really grateful for your insight. 🙂 thank you so much.
i'll ask the school about my situation then 🙂

i have a classmate/friend who had the same situation. she found out she was pregnant about a month before starting medschool. she gave birth on the last week of november. she remained single, by the way.

it's a good thing you'd still be a 1st year, since you have sembreaks. you can take around three weeks off. make sure to talk to your faculty in advance so they can excuse you and schedule you for exams, class activities that you may miss and need to make up for. 😳

good luck dear! it's been done. congratulations on being a mommy! 😎
