Different sort of question, but I guess related:

Has anyone run into problems with doing prelim or transition years at completely different hospital systems from their residency programs? Are there any crazy funding/salary issues involved? Is it any easier to do your intern year at the hospital you plan to do your residency? Does this question make any sense?

I didn't change my personal statement for the TY programs. Writing one personal statement was bad enough as far as I'm concerned, and I didn't see any reason to pretend to be interested in anything other than EM.

Are there any crazy funding/salary issues involved?

Training years that don't lead to board eligibility (intern or transitional) don't count against the years Medicare gives for funding.
