prelim GRE scores wrong?

I was wondering if anyone has experienced or knows someone who had their preliminary GRE scores reported too high (or low), and the scores were subsequently changed when they received the mailed report.

No, but my percentiles changed from when I received my initial score report and when I sent them to schools

I know someone whose math score went down ten points from the computer score to the mailed report.

I had slightly higher "scores" on practice GRE tests than on the real one...my quantitative score dropped about 30 points

elefante: do you know if they received an explanation why the score was lower?

the reason I am asking is my computer score for the quant was in a much higher range than I expected based on my practice tests. I don't know if I should celebrate or if it is likely going to be changed to lower when I get my results back??

Both my verbal and quantitative scores were higher than I was getting on practice tests and were the same on both the instant score report and the final report.

It didn't occur to me to do anything but be thrilled, so I say go ahead and celebrate!😀

I believe my verbal computer score was about 10 points lower than my mailed score, but I can't be sure because I might have just remembered the computer score wrong.

I'm sure if it's off it's not THAT much off.... celebrate!

It's very unlikely to be wrong. FWIW, you will be in a higher "range" of scores in general if you do well on the first few questions of a section than if you bomb those and do well on the last ones.

More importantly than how you did on the practice exams....how did the questions feel as you were doing them? Like, did it seem like you were getting them right or what?

And lastly, the quantitative section percentiles and the verbal section percentiles are very different. Getting a 700 verbal will likely land you above 95th percentile easily. Getting a 700 on the quant may not even net you 70th percentile (not 100% sure of these, just basing them on score-percentile correlations that myself and people I know have seen). So it can only be a good thing that your quant seems higher than it should be. 😉

Seriously.

I was pretty psyched that my 490 verbal landed me in the 58%tile. On the other hand my 760 quant only landed me at the 86%tile.

If I hadnt gotten in I was going to retake the GRE in hopes of brining up my quant score. Verbal was kind of a lost cause for me.
