Just to get this straight, if one matches into advanced neuro and not a prelim program, you're screwed but you can match into a prelim without matching into advanced neuro and not be screwed? Would you just reapply to neuro using new letters you got during your prelim year?
 
Most programs that accept you for neuro will try to find a place for you in their IM programs so ask. But if one only got into the IM program then yeah, you would need to look for a spot during that year.
 
I'm confused on this topic in general..
so you are supposed to apply to Neuro Residencies, but some have the IM year built in and some don't?
For another route, do some people apply to rotating IM internship for a year and then apply to neuro residencies? Is one way better? Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere.
