During SOAP are most prelim programs ok with just a telephone interview? Or do a lot want to do skype style video chat? Basically should I go out and buy a webcam?

If i was in your shoes, I would not worry about getting a webcam unless a program specifically wanted to skype/video chat. I think it's unlikely.

Obviously, I don't have first hand experience. But, I would just rely on my phone.

Contact your school. My school has a SOAP "battlestation" type thing set up with multiple phone lines, webcams, computers, and advisers available for those less fortunate today.

Unfortunately I am a DO, my school has no such support additionally I am about 6 hrs away from the school.

I don't know if they do or not, but it wouldn't hurt to have one just in case. You're going to have to wait until tomorrow most likely, so just go out and grab a $20 webcam.

Or ask them to FaceTime if you have an iPad 😛

My guess is that you'll probably not need one. However, if you get one and don't open it unless it's necessary, you can always return it in the event that it goes unused.

Unfortunately I am a DO, my school has no such support additionally I am about 6 hrs away from the school.

Finding an open DO intern year shouldn't be too hard. Finding one where your program is could be more trouble. I had to do this last year. I thought ahead though and interviewed at a couple DO TRIs during the season just in case. Made life much less stressful.

Lol same story here bro--DO, no soap "battlestation" whatsoever, and away from school.

As for your question, where did you hear progs did video interviews? That's so new, I doubt they can expect that. Think of the loading time. Phone interviews are quick, and thus can be done en masse.
