Can someone tell me how hard it is to match Prelim Surgery through the SOAP? I am a little worry about matching advance and not prelim medicine. I look at last year's match results and saw that there was about 37 unfilled prelim surgery positions in Illinois, which is about average for the last 3 years. Will it be difficult for one to Soap into one of these spots?

Generally, prelim surgery is the easiest of the prelim spots. It's likely because it's the most punishing. It's essentially working for the most brutal services/specialties, all of which have no vest interested in you. Anyway, shouldn't be hard unless you want to stay in a very specific area, such as Chicago. Even then, plenty of community spots in Chi.
