is it highly necessary that a pre-pharm does the same stuff premeds do; such as get many papers published by high end journals, take a load of credits per semester, have a ton of ec, volunteer in africa, be president of an organization, etc?

Since the concept of the 2+4 hasn't been replaced with 3+4 or 4+4 yet, I suppose the journal publishing part isn't as crucial to getting into pharmacy school. Not every med school entering student volunteered in a foreign country or was president of an organization either.😉
I will admit that the competition level is getting to the point where an applicant should take more than just the bare bones full time schedule even if said person works.
