This is my first post, so please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.

I noticed that some med schools require an evaluation from a premedical adviser? How do I find out if I have one at my school (University of Nevada-Reno). I know for sure that we don't have a premedical committee. I have a regular adviser that helps with basically everything - would she be my premedical adviser?

Certainly, and why not? That's the only option you have, right?

well your advisor would be your pre med advisor, as she is helping you with your pre med coursework. I'm not sure what you mean by an "evaluation," by her, but mine is there to help me determine what classes to take, what I should do (although SDN advice is generally> advisor) and take off holds.

It would also be a good idea for this person to write you a letter of recommendation if he or she has ever taught a class you took.

A 3-minute search of your university's website yielded the following information about pre-medical advising:

http://www.unr.edu/academicaffairs/advising/Pre Health etc page/PreHealthPreMedPreLaw.html

Looks like they had a whole series of workshops this spring on the entire pre-med and application process.

If your so-called academic adviser knows that you're pre-med and hasn't pointed you in this direction yet, you need to get on the phone with your university's advising office ASAP and get hooked up with the right people.

Double that on the ASAP remark. Pat Wilson is the woman you want to see. She is the official pre-med advisor for UNR, but I know they are cutting her position by the beginning of next semester. I don't know where she'll end up when the dust settles...
