hey guys

i have an outpt (im an internist) with moderate to severe symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder. the symptoms are interfering with her job and social life. otherwise has no significant medical or psychiatric history. she is interested in pharmacotherapy. the issue is that she is currently trying to conceive. any thoughts?

Yes, that would change her from premenstrual dysphoric disorder to dysphoric. Sometimes I think the definition of PDD is any dysphoric person who happens to menstruate. Get her to chart on a mood calendar. Most likely you will be having the conversation that goes something like:

“The good news is that you don’t have PDD….the bad news is that you are a very irritable dysphoric person.”
