Hi...
please let me know what prep course you think is better btw...falcon OR kaplan...and if you can 'why'
thnx
🙄

Kaplan is.

Kaplan is better. Hands down. It always is. From 6th grade pass outs through SAT, GRE, MCAT, and step 3, Kaplan is always better. Its just more expensive.

Who has even heard of Falcon, anyway? From what I hear all you learn in Falcon is how to hunt small game. Albeit, hunting animals with another animal is pretty hot, and the bird comes with your enrollment, but the training and the scratching at your eyeballs, not worth it.

Falconry, for those who dont get it.

What do you think about Kaplan homestudy book set vs. webprep/centerprep?

Do they let you keep that big leather glove? And if so, can I bring into the Prometric testing center?

Thats one of the downsides of Falcon. They let you keep the bird, but demand the glove back. At first, I was like, how bad can it be? The bird knows me, trusts me. Taking the Step with a prostethic limb was quite challenging.

I didnt ask Prometric about the bird, but i just brought Gotrex the Mighty with me. Unfortunately, I never got him over the eyeball scratching phase, so you can imagine that the fellow test takers were unhappy about losing their vision for the test (they actually seemed less angry about the permanent vision loss than the fact that they had not asked for vision assisitance for their exams, priorities i suppose).

Now dont let those Prometric people fool you. THey are wise to our tricks. Gotrex went right for the secretaries eyes, then wham, Gotrex was in a cage, sedated. I mean, this woman had literally 5 seconds to react. Wish I could use her to hunt small game....

On a more serious note, the Kaplan home books are good if you like reading. They lose a lot of the emphasis expressed in class (inflection is astonishingly important for recall) and there is no real cross-linking or memory recall. If you do LIVE lectures, you will undoubtedly be wasting time (8hrs a day, slow as **** to get everythign out). Doing things at your own pace (videos/audio, pirated [i do not advocate copyright infringement] or otherwise) is far superior. Books ok, videos best, center probably the worst

i took the intense 5 week prep class for kaplan(live lecture one). i also have the dvd's which my friend let me borrow. let me tell you....in order for u to save money and get a 99.....dont buy those stupid home study books. buy the 7 volume series. buy the 08 or 07 or 06 ones. u can obtain them from online on ebay or whatnot. the thing is, the live lectures and the dvds....are the SAME EXACT THING haha. i no...i no...why didnt i drop out of the live lecture? because kaplan is smart...they know the students have the dvd's...so after attending one live lecture class...you only get 75% of ur money back...so you get "trapped" lol. but yea anyways buy the 7 volume book, they are VERY good for all subjects except path. get goljan RR and his audio. youll thank me later.

for falcon, my friends who live in texas actually took that class. its also the same time frame. but they hated it. the only positive thing is goljan himself is the professor for the pathology section! sooooo thats the only reason ppl take it.

so yea, kaplan has been around alot longer..better track record..and they have MANY years on top of falcon in researching the USMLE exam itself. and wayyyyyyy more money invested. so yea...im sure you can make ur decision now. any questions PM me

ohand you NEED THE dvd's. if u cant find em. then just sign up for the center access for kaplan. they ahve the most up to date dvd's!!! so sign up for the center access if u can! hope this helped

Definitely, thanks! I have been spending A LOT of time researching people's study methods (from 2007-2009, across various forums) for the last week or so. One reason for this is that I am aiming for a 99.
I have found only one high scorer that swears by the home study program... For the other high scorers that went Kaplan, they mostly used the lecture notes + videos. There were also some people with impressive scores that used Kaplan's webprep...

I guess, at this point, one of the only questions I have left is what is the difference between:

Kaplan lecture notes + videos

and

Kaplan webprep (notes + audio w/ slides - I think that’s what it is)

Does webprep do less in the ways of "filling in" in the 7 lecture books in comparison to the DVDs? It seems like web prep (80 hours) must either be more efficient or skip over some things that the DVDs/live lectures (160 hours-I think) cover.

Kaplan's site on CenterPrep features: "Dynamic Video Content Review: Reinforce your studies by pausing and rewinding difficult topics at a local Kaplan center."

So regardless of which course you sign up for none of them give out the DVD's to take home anymore..? You have to buy someone's old ones from back when they used to give them out (2007?)... If it is the only way to access their most up to date videos, I would consider centerprep if it didn't require being at their facilities whenever I want to use them. Plus, there is a time limit on your access to the center.

Thanks for any input..
