Hi everyone. I hope everyone's application season is going well so far. I submitted my AMCAS on the June 30th and hope that it gets processed in a couple weeks. Everything else is in and I'm working on secondary applications as they come trickling in (I'm dedicating about 2 hours a day to them). I have a pretty good balance with my job and I'm pretty much all prepped for doing well senior year (learned most of my classes ahead of time, or at least read the textbook for them). In my down time I hope to prep for STEP 1 using notes from Kaplan, as well as some lecture sets. I'm not aiming to study the memorization heavy topics, but rather big-picture integrative topics (biochem, physio, immune system, microbio, etc). I can always memorize later down the line.

Unfortunately, I'm using one of my family member's old note set (from 2011). I'll prob buy an updated note set right before I actually take STEP 1, but I'm just wondering if a 2011 note set is suitable preparation.

I know some people are going to say that it's useless cause I'll forget everything, but they are wrong. Exposure to the material early makes it that much easier to digest once I take it again in medical school. Additionally, I started studying for my MCAT back in high school immediately after I took my ACT. This made me ace my pre-med classes but also get a 520 with 1 week of actual studying.

Can anyone also point me in resources for prepping for STEP 1 (and med school classes)?

Uworld I think has step1 prep material. If it works for you, then I don't think there's any reason not to... seeing as if you have the down time

Your time would be better sent understanding how to use Zanki and using First Aid to master public health sciences (epi + biostats) and psychology.

I have to say, I like the way you roll. 520 in one week, mind PMing me some more details? I’m interested in your approach to prelearning classes since I’m currently doing that for my fall semester.

Though for your question, people on this forum probably will just say your an extreme gunner. But hey, if this level of gunning has worked so far, I would definitely continue with it. Check out r/medicalschool on reddit for great advice.

Edit: lol just in case it wasnt clear I’m being completely serious and I actually do wanna know what your experience has been and hear any tips you have.
