Preparing for interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am freaking out, and no, I don't think that is the best way to prepare. But besides that, I am thorougly researching the schools I have interviews at and practicing my answers outloud to commonly asked questions (why dentistry? and why ___ dental school?). It's wierd to say them outloud and I think a lot harder than saying it in your head. But, mostly I'm just freaking out!

By the way, GatorDDS, check your PM.

I have really done 4 things...

1-Read the interview feedback for the school on SDN and get a feel for the questions the school has asked before and try to think a few answers over in my mind.

2-Read over the schools website and be a little familiar with the schools program

3-Re-read my application a few times to make sure I remember what I put down about myself and in my personal statement so that when I interview I can match my application well.

4-I made a shadowing journal and I wrote a ton of feelings down about how excited I was to see those original procedures and treatmentsI witnessed. I havfe re-read that a few times so I can remeber the feelings I had about dentistry and why I really want to be a dentist.

Go to my Dentistry Mentoring Thread and read up on the interviewing tips. Hopefully you can find them of some use. DP

3. Start with a FIRM hand shake. That shows that you are confident and not the timid type. If you are Asian, you start out with a "Tomahawk" chop to the forehead... 😛

I tried to remedy the atypical asian limp handshake, and ended up breaking a bone in an job interviewer's hand this past summer. I'll have to remember the tomahawk chop... gotcha 👍
