Hey all, glad to be back with SDN after a tough semester.

I'm preparing for my interview with NYU this upcoming January or February. I say this with a bit of doubt as the timeline for the NYU BA/DDS program is very unreliable. So, I have scoured SDN looking for feedback on NYU, and I've only come across 2 or 3 recent posts about it. I've also looked at the database of questions from DentalDat's website.

I know the first and second round of acceptances for NYU have come out this past November and December, so can anyone who was accepted provide any feedback on the interview process/questions? I've talked to the assistant director of admissions during a tour with NYU this past October, so I know that some interviewers try to mess with applicants' heads by acting uninterested. I also know that other faculty members interviewing applicants are very laid back.

So are there any questions that I should be on the lookout for? And overall, were the interviews more laid back this time around, or were they more of a psychological warfare 🙂scared🙂?

Again, congrats to all those accepted and good luck to those who will interview in the future.

I don't believe you can be accepted anywhere until Dec. 1....

My mistake, I meant December only. Some people started posting in November on the official acceptance threads and I accidentally thought they were notified at the end of November 🙄.

google SDN Interview Feedback to learn about the types of questions asked.

To put in it context, I interviewed mid December and got accepted the following week
My interview was a complete "mind-f@#K"! That being said, I'm not the typical applicant applying to dental school, nor was my undergrad record stellar.

I do have one piece of advice; Don't take "No" for an answer.
If you truly want to go to NYU, make sure you convince them they're better off taking you than the other kids in that waiting room. In my case, right before my interviewer "ended" our discussion, the interviewer bluntly pointed out the "glaring" issues with my application and asked if, "I had any questions about the school". As if to say, "Our conversation is done here, you're not good enough".
I could tell the interviewer was baiting me by the look on his face, as if he wanted to know if I'd just roll over and accept defeat, or if I REALLY wanted to come to NYU. I skipped asking questions about NYU, and fired right back. Let's just say I knew I was accepted by the time the interview ended.

Good Luck to you and be confident!

Can you clarify what you mean by "firing right back"? I'm very curious about this exchange, as I believe that it would be a great help to me and others. (If you cannot tell, I don't have much interview experience).🙁

Thanks and CONGRATS!!!!😛

I definitely had one of the "let's act uninterested and even a bit hostile" interviewers. There was almost no back-and-forth, no discussion about my answers to questions. He just wrote down what I said, looking unimpressed the whole time. My response to the "ethical dilemma" question was not well-received, and he seemed somewhat insulted with what I saw as a dilemma. PM me if you want the details of that. I left the interview thinking I'd bombed it but I got in on 12/1. Gave up my spot the same day because I had such a negative experience at the interview. That said, plenty of people on my interview day said that theirs was relaxed and conversational. It's really just luck of the draw who you get paired with based on what time you get there.

Other than that, be sure to eat breakfast before you go. Their spread was lame.
