Preparing for Temple

I live in California and will start school at Temple in the fall. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I should be doing to prepare for dental school. I know that the obvious answer is take classes however; my university would not let me take classes unless I am admitted as a grad student. Any suggestions on how to prepare for Temple other than classes??

Hey! I am going to Temple from California, too!!! I'll be hibernating in preparation for August.

For the most part I am taking it easy for a few months. If you really want to prepare yourself a little bit, brush up on gross anatomy and histology. Those are going to be first semester classes that require a lot of studying. Maybe you can audit a class like Biochemistry or something to get your brain in study mode.

The best thing you can do to get ready for Temple is NOTHING. Enjoy your summer off. You will learn enough in school. Enjoy your second to last summer off. Ever. Do Nothing! Live it up! Do something you have always wanted to do but have been too busy to do.

Hey, if you're looking for stats, try checking predents.com. You can search for temple in particular, and also get a sense of the trends since there are 3 cycles worth of data collected there. Just keep in mind that these stats tend to be skewed because not everyone who has applied posts on predents.com.

To the OP, I'm not going to Temple, but the advice that floats around on this board tends to be to enjoy your last summer before d-school. If you're looking for specific advice on living on the east coast, around Philly, other nuts and bolts of Temple, do feel free to ask those specific questions.

Enjoy your summer, and buy a big, phat, warm jacket... I also moved from Cali 2 Philly and let me tell you... forget about 50-60 degree winter days. It gets mad cold out here... But congrats to you all, Temple is awsome and your gonna learn soooooo much.

I can't wait to go to temple myself, I look forward to seeing you all there! I plan on working at best buy over the summer to make some cash before I start school, since I've heard its incredibly hard to hold a job while in dental school. Plus, if you transfer the money to an IRA you can borrow it from yourself at low interest to pay for school and incur no tax penalties.

Also, I want to buy a Sony KDL-XBR4 s40 1080p 120 hz lcd television before I go up to philly, so that employee discount should be mighty handy 🙂

Seems to be alot of kids from Cali going to Temple. I'm from Pittsburgh but went to UCI for undergrad. I was actually glad I got into Temple because even though they technically fall under the category of a state school, they don't give much preference to residents. Must be wanting to get that extra 5k a year from out of staters😀. I hope it'll be easier for you all to get residency here than it is to get it at UCI, greedy bastards. They definitely won't be getting any alumni donations from me, unless they decide to start a football team.

Enjoy the warmth of Cali while you can! Philly can be brutally cold. If you're looking at buying a place in Philly I've got one for sale in the western suburbs. It's been great for me for the last few years.

Funny I thought CA gave residency after 1 year. I wouldn't donate to them either though haha.

The soonest you can get it is one year if you meet all requirements, one of which is not being declared as an independent on parents' tax returns for two years. That was a big sticking point, not to mention the financial aid office was extremely unfriendly.

Yea people at the FAO seem to have a stick permanently wedged up their butt - must be a requirement to get hired I suppose.
