I've never did a verbal assessment as of yet, and today I did my first one. I only got a 6, but I had no real idea what I was expecting on how to pace myself, answer questions, etc. I have 5 months to prepare, so I'm confident that I can run up my score, but I'm wondering if this is typical, or if I should really put even more additional time into verbal than I already am. My other sections are fairly competitive. Thanks for any advice or input.

this is quite typical. Do verbal passages on a regular basis during your preparation. Since you have 5 months, you can start off with taking passages untimed until you develop a strategy, and then start doing timed passages.
