Hey all, so looking for a little advice. I have a couple interviews coming up this next month, and one of my last prerequisites (a 1 credit physics lab) has time conflicts with both interviews. The syllabus states that missing 2 lab days will result in an automatic 0.0. I spoke with the professor, because obviously I had no idea when or even if I’d get an interview. He was more or less unwilling to help me come up with a solution and told me that while I could attend another lab section, he would still count it as a “‘missed lab” and that if I missed 2 I’d receive a 0.0 for the course. We also have three pop quizzes that account for 40% of the lab grade, and would not tell me when to expect them or even let me take them in advance.

All that said, rather than risk getting an F in the class, I am considering withdrawing from the lab and taking it next quarter. I just don’t want to stress about this while I need to focus on having good interviews at the schools I’ve been lucky enough to receive invitations from. Just wanted to know what the SDN community thought. Will schools look down on this?

Thanks for the help!

Drop the lab. Prof sounds like a harda**. Don't understand why attending another lab section can't make up for the missed labs.

Pre-reqs just have to be done prior to matriculation, not a the time of application or interview.

If it comes up in the interviews, just explain that you tried to work with the prof, it didn't work out, and you will finish the lab before you matriculate.

Agreed. That guys seems awful anyways. I don't understand why people have to be like that..
