Before I made this thread i did search for older posts but couldnt get an overall consensus on what you guys think of this scenario. I recently dropped Gen CHEM 2 with a W bc my instructor was really harsh and no one in the class was receiving good grades over half the class was failing at one point and basically it was like the majority winding up with a C or below. I dropped it bc i knew the material and figured i could do better with a different prof so I am taking it at my same undergrad school this summer ... basically i am just wondering what is the overall consensus on taking pre req classes in the summer i've heard from a few people that its frowned upon bc the material is fast and not covered as rigorously.
And also how will it be looked upon if i wind up getting like a B/B+. I just dont wanna be harshly considered bc of a W but at least I am taking it at my home instution to show that I am determined enough to keep on track. I did get an A- in GEN CHEM 1.

Taking it in the summer is usually only looked down on if you take it at a community college.

You'll be fine bub

Don't worry, it's not really frowned upon that you take it somewhere over the summer, this is such a small issue that it probably won't be noticed. If you were a history major or something who take EVERY science course over the summer, it might raise some eyebrows.

FYI, I'll let you know that every intro chem class I know of has the majority of the class failing. Both of my professors would display their class averages, and they were usually around a 50. I go to a random no-name state school, and the chemistry I took was the one exclusively for bio/chem majors and they were still all flunking. My point is, don't just blame the professor for being too hard, especially in an intro science class. My experience is that they do flunk most of the people.

I am not trying to discourage you, but seriously consider if you need to step it up. This is what people mean when they say it is really competitive to get into med school. Of course, some people just have trouble with general chemistry and don't have issues with all of the other subjects.

Thank you guys for the replies. And I do understand that all these weed out classes are prevalent are are trying to have mean grades with average numbers. However, I decided to drop it bc i KNOW i could do better with a more encouraging and fair prof, which i picked this summer so hopefully it all works out.
Anyone else have any insight?

I'm not sure I understand. You say that the mean grade was about a C? What about that is "really harsh"?
