Prereqs question!!!!

I'm a HS Senior but I have the option of taking college courses b/c my high school is a collegiate HS & works with a local college. I've taken all the English courses I need (9 credit hours) & courses like Statistics. Next semester I was supposed to take Psychology & and a BS class of Philosophy. I checked on the UoM Dental school prereqs and noticed that Sociology is a requirement.... I'm trying to take it now so I could save time & $ instead of taking it in university. Only problem is it's a little late to switch so I'm not sure if i'll be able to. Of course I've saved ALL of my sciences for the university level.

Now my question is, does taking prereq courses like English & Psych/Socio at the CC level weaken my dental school application? I've taken them through my HS and made As in all of the ones I've took. I definitely avoided taking my core sciences though. I've been involved with this dual credit program since my jr year in high school so i should be graduating with my associates degree & high school diploma this year so will that be recognized?

Some schools accept a certain number of CC hours and some don't like to see many at all for their pre-Recs. However, as long you are not taking core sciences, i fail to see an issue. That being said, the best course of action is to just call the school and inquire.

Some schools dont accept AP or dual credit courses so you'll have to check with the schools you plan on applying to. Personally I am an llinois resident and took part in a dual credit program with my high school and CC to graduate with my associates. I transferred to a 4 year university with 65 credits and having taken all gen eds and gen chem 1+2 as well as physics part 1. Got accepted to my state school which didn't really ever say anything about it to me. Do well in your classes to keep your GPA high at university and do all right on your DAT and you shouldn't have much to worry about. My personal take on these programs to go to CC in high school to get your associates show that you are a motivated individual. If presented the opportunity and did not take part you would be sitting in a high school unchallenged for an extra 2 years. Best of luck to you though

yeah, thanks for the insight. I have a long way to go. One benefit I saw was that it would free my academic schedule up this way & let me dedicate more time to my core classes. I'm also sitting on around 65 credits. It's all about the GPA and DAT I realize, but I plan to do a lot of extracurriculars also.

I had over 30 hours of AP credit and ran into no issues whatsoever with gaining acceptance to dental school. I was able to graduate early from college, and I had semesters with 13 and 12 credit hours. It was nice. All of my English and math credits were taken care of before entering undergraduate, along with a lot of other random humanities classes. Granted, I didn't apply to any dental schools that accepted NO AP credit, but there aren't too many of those. Prove that you're a smart student and there won't be any issues.
