Hello,

I understand that one of the requirements for applying to medical school is to have completed one year of general biology. Well, my AP Biology score gave me credit for the first two quarters of general biology at my university, so I only had to take the last quarter of it at my college. However, since I am a microbiology major, I have already taken all of my upper division biology courses (cell bio, molec., etc.).

My question is would these upper division biology courses cover the two quarters of general bio requirement that I am missing?

It's school-dependent. A number of schools will not accept AP credit toward fulfilling their prerequisites. However, those that do accept AP credit expect you to take additional upper-div bio courses, in which case you're fine. I'd check the policy of each school to which you're applying.

Almost all Med Schools have the policy that you should take upper-level classes in biology if you have AP Credit for Biology.

For example, you could take Genetics and Biochem, both of which are recommended classes for a good number of medical schools.

EDIT: Since you're a microbiology major you should be fine.
