I was just reviewing my app and doublechecking all the instructions that come with it when I noticed the whole prerequisite and 'other' label deal.

Since I didn't see anything on the VMCAS forum that was particularly helpful and I can't call today, I thought I would give it a shot here. I have no issues recognizing that my basic bio, chem, and physics courses get a VMCAS prerequisite label, but what I'm not sure about (especially in regards to many of my UD bio courses) is...

1) Should I list every anthropology course I've taken as Social Science?
2) Is a detective/science fiction course best to put under English or Humanities?
3) Would Ethology/Behavioral Ecology, General Animal Virology, Aquatic Communities and Primate Behavior be considered animal science, bio or other?
4) How about Principles of Paleontology (right now it's under 'other'), Reproduction and Developmental Biology?

Thanks for any insight.

i haven't talked directly to vmcas about it (and we probably should), but i've got a few of the same issues as you. here's what i would guess:

i sympathize with you on all the anthro because that was my major. i've got them all under social science. i've got some primate classes, too, like you, and i put those under anthro because they were in my anthro department--but depending on the content of the courses, i'd think you could put them under bio just as easily.

any fiction course i'd think should go under english.

principles of paleontology is a branch of anthro, so i would say social science again. all those other classes--the upper level bios--i think should be labelled with the bio pre-req label, because some of the schools require you to have a set number of hours of upper-level bio.

again, they're just my thoughts--but maybe it helps to know someone's in the same boat as you!
