Hello people,

I currently in the process of working on my prereqs to apply for dental school. I already graduated from university with a degree in business. Now, I need some of the science classes. I am confused as to what class would suffice for the biology portion. I have taken a class at my CC for a general biology class for majors, but it is not in a sequence like bio 1a, 1b, 1c. Instead, we just have biology 4 for majors and then other classes that required that prereq. If I took my biology for majors class along with something like cellular/molecular biology would that fulfill my prerequisites for biology? Thank you for clarifying!

First of all, you should not be taking the prereq courses at a CC. Why? Try the search option in the forums and you will probably find hundreds of threads.

The course you mentioned probably doesn't even get credited for a general biology course at a full 4 year college.

The undergrad and prereq work are to show that you can handle the workload well to the committee. The work at CC hardly shows any of that; courses are too easy.

Okay, I completely disagree ^ I’m so tired of people hating on community college. I did all my prerequisites at CC because I also didn’t graduate with a hard science degree. I’m not sure where you are taking them/what state you are in but you should meet with a counselor or look online to see what courses are transferable/equivalent to a 4yr university, say for a bio major. Then, look at the dental schools you want to apply to and see what their pre-req requirements are. Though, some courses like biochem will have to be completed at a 4yr school (depending on diff requirements of each dental school). Hope that helps!
