Hi,
I was hoping someone could please explain to me how to begin solving this problem. Thanks🙂

An airplane takes off at sea level and climbs to a height of 425m. Estimate the net outward force on the eardrum assuming the density of air is approximately constant at 1.3kg/m3 and that the inner ear pressure hasn't been equalized. Area of the eardrum = 1e-4m2.

you use the difference in height to calculate the difference in pressure.

is this really an mcat question?

If it is, I like this, even though it is calculation heavy. You have to understand how pressure differs as a function of height, and the definition of pressure.
