I keep reading on SDN that osteopathic schools have a much higher tution than allopathic schools. I wanted to verify if this is true or not, but I can't find any concrete evidence.

Are there any sites or articles concerning tution costs at the two types of schools?

I think this half-truth arises from the simple fact that the majority of DO schools are private, and thus will have higher tuition than public MD (or DO) schools. However, comparing public and private schools is really apples vs. oranges.

Here's data from the 2008-2009 MSAR (for MD) and the 2008 AACOM book. Note that this is effectively 2006 data. Year-to-year changes can be drastic. Actual cost-of-attendance, meaning the budget against which financial aid is granted, isn't info you'll have until you interview at a particular school. At both MD and DO schools, you can find bargains (see LECOM), and your home state makes a big difference.

You can probably plug this into Excel and play with it.

odds are that you don't know what you're talking about 😱

I come from a long family tradition of DO's...my father is one..along with my uncle and 2 cousins. My father was a pharmacist and could have easily gotten into a MD school, however, he chose to go DO....

although he has no use of osteopathy as an opthalmologist, he does believe he wouldn't have gotten an opthalmology residency if it weren't for an osteopathic residency in opthalmology

If you've got the stats to get into a private MD school, odds are you aren't looking at DO programs.

Private school doesn't equate with goodness. Public school doesn't equate with badness.

I'm more interested in LECOM-B than UWash, having interviewed at both, and having not yet been rejected by either. Lame data point, but it's all I've got.
