I completed my primary application today. I got a 25Q on my first MCAT. I am retaking the MCAT on Sept 10. When will I start getting secondary application? Also, my advisor is preparing my LORs to be sent out. I have four professors who wrote me recommendations. Is that enough? Also do I send the LORs before completing secondary applications?

Thank you

You should have sent that in June or July at the latest.

It will take a while for your application to be verified with AACOMAS. Make sure all of your letters are in order. Some schools will accept letters ahead of time...cant hurt to ask. I
f youre applying DO then try to find a DO to shadow and get a letter from him. Not all schools require this but some do and for the others it can do nothing but help.
Aside from that all you can do is begin working on secondarys and have your essays ready so you can submit them as soon as possible. Youre late in the cycle already, you dont want to slow the process down further by not having something ready.

I would send every LoR you have immediately so at least they have a file for you by the time your primary is verified. IMO it wouldn't hurt to send a CV as well. You have a good 4-6 weeks before the schools even receive anything regarding your app. It wouldn't hurt to look at the secondary thread and have those done so you can send them back right away as well.

Don't worry, you don't have to have sent in your primary as early as the previous poster said.

It takes about 6 weeks to be verified. Check this thread for details.

Once verified, it takes up to 2 weeks for schools to receive your application from AACOMAS, shortly after which they'll either screen your primary and make a decision about whether or not to send a secondary, or they'll just send it to you if they don't screen. Check the Pre Osteo FAQs Sticky Thread for schools that screen.

You don't want to send LORs until the schools receive your app and create a file for your materials. Thus, usually the secondary invitation email has instructions for LORs. If not you can email them, but it's safe to say that you should send them in to the schools at that point.

As far as "is 4 LORs enough?"...check the CIB and/or the LOR spreadsheet in my sig for more details. Each school publishes their LOR requirements in the CIB.

The last issue is that of your MCAT retake. If you marked down on your primary that you'd be retaking, some schools will *NOT* send you a secondary until they receive your new scores. Other schools will just wait to make the final decision on all of your materials until they have your new scores and all other materials. You'll have to contact the schools to find out their individual policies on this, if you're curious.

:luck:

You said that you have LOR's from 4 professors. Is one of them a DO or MD? A letter from a physician is a mandatory part of the application, so be aware of that. Letters of recommendation are requested with secondary applications, so get them ready to be sent with your secondaries. Your MCAT score seems to be near the average matriculant score, so you are in good shape there.

It will be a while before your primary is verified and sent. You are about half way through the application season, so there is still time. Good luck!

wait im confused. i have a letter from an MD/PhD i took a class from. that counts as a physician letter? i thought those letters are to detail your capacity to be a physician. i have 3 faculty letters, one is an MD/PhD, and a letter from my volunteering at peds (child life specialist) detailing my interaction with the kids and capacity to be a physician. i have that as a supplemental letter. i'm trying to shadow a DO to get a physician letter. are you saying that i should be good to go?

Most D.O. schools require a letter from a D.O. Those that don't require it (PCOM for example) strongly encourage it. Some schools will let you submit the secondary before AACOMAS verification is complete. Chocolate Bear is correct, do your research. LMU states on its website that you should send in the secondary as soon as your primary is complete at AACOMAS. As for LOR's check the litierature on each school. Most require two science professors and a D.O.

I got into DO school with a 24P MCAT. Why are you taking it over before even finishing the application process? It's a huge waste of time and money. Just wondering.😕
