Hello, I'm pharmacist who is licensed in both NY and CA. I was licensed in NY first in 2017, but then I paid for the NABP score transfer to CA last year. My triennial deadline for renewal is coming up for NY, and I really don't want to pay for the renewal fee as I don't see myself returning to NY. I've checked the NY Office of the Professions website and found out that I can make my NY license inactive, but since NY is my primary state will that negatively impact my CA license?

I believe CA does not have licenses designated as “reciprocal” or “primary” so you should be fine to lose the NY license. In states that do, your only problem is getting new licenses; a state that has issued a reciprocal license will not send your NAPLEX score to another state if you wish to be licensed elsewhere. If nobody else echoes what I’m saying, double check with the CA BOP via phone/email.
