I'm currently a sophomore in undergrad, and I'm planning on going to dental school at UT (which has a strong relationship with my school), UMKC, Howard, or Oklahoma. I'm acually at a crossroads though because I am having to decide between a minor in Spanish and a minor in Honors Interdisciplanry Studies (Honors College). My major is biology, and I have a 3.9 (one freakin B in Chemistry!). My predicament is that I am one year behind in my major because last year I was a Spanish major, and I can only keep one of my minors (Spanish or Honors) to graduate in 4 years (with summer school). Which one of these majors is more advantageous. With the Spanish minor I can spend a semster in Spain, but the Honors minor might boost my education since I go to a no name school in Arkansas. I really don't like the Honors College, but I love Spanish. The question is which one is better for getting into dental schoool?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I say stick with what you're interested in. Go with Spanish. Adcoms love well rounded individuals, and you could probably get a few fun/interesting opportunities doing spanish. I dont know what the heck Honors Interdisciplinary Study is, but it sounds boring as hell to me. You'll probably do better in classes that you enjoy more anyway.

spanish!! especially if you enjoy it.

I'm thankful that the honors college attracted me to my current university instead of a private school, but it always seemed like a joke and i no longer take honors courses.

a few years ago i saw a documentary on how universities boost their appeal.. and they showed how honors colleges are used to attract students who will boost their stats, therefore leading to a higher ranking in the books/lists on top universities. better dorms, nicer classrooms, more individual attention, etc... similar to recruiting incredible athletes who will boost the schools athletic reputation.

i asked an admissions officer what they thought about honors and they said, "so does that just mean there's an H by the course number? don't worry about it."

i'm sure it doesn't hurt, but in my opinion, it doesn't seem like the best way to separate yourself from the crowd of overachieving pre-dents.

and sorry to change the subject a little, but I've looked at last years AADSAS and searched the forums. can't seem to find evidence that there is section on AADSAS to put your minor..

is there a section of aadsas in which we can list minors?

thanks!
hope this helps
