pritzker continued + waitlist thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the list has been made and letters are out... i just got the waitlist notification today. :] i don't know if anyone has any other information but i heard predictions that the waitlist will be somewhere around 70ish people and maybe 25-30 will get in. again, just predictions, not actual numbers - but still maybe a 1/2-1/3 chance of getting in off of it! good luck everyone!

Hmm, I called late Friday and was told the Admissions Committee would be meeting again on Tuesday to finalize the Wait List, though some Wait List offers have already gone out.

interesting, da Vinci, i suppose i assumed it was all done since i got a letter. good to know!

did the actual waitlist letter give you an idea about the numbers? either way, congrats on making the waitlist!

the letter makes a point to say that the waitlist is not ranked, and that they will re-review people on the list each time a spot opens up in the class. i was told that they do it based on credentials...like if someone with a strong research or a strong community health background drops out, they'll try to fill the spot with someone with similar qualities. there was no mention of how many will be on it (since da Vinci said they're still working on picking the last candidates), but those numbers are just projections based on what i've heard about trends and years past from friends who've previously applied.

pritzker told us that, as far as they could remember, no more than 25 have been pulled from the pool and as few as 3 have.

but i wonder how big his year's alternate pool is, ballpark.

Still "Unknown." Am I doomed? 🙁

10 minutes later....

I'm on the waitlist!!!

i got a letter recently too. they really did make it sound like we're dealing with small numbers here. i wonder the % chance. i was getting all geared up to go to my state school. now my mindset is all different. ugh. just tell me 3 months ago.

What's the latest day that someone could be accepted off the waitlist?

when i spoke to uofc they said most movement happens between late may and late june. but people have heard as late as august (pretty rare)

Theoretically, it could be the day before classes start. Again, that'd never happen, but there's no official closure of the waitlist until classes actually start as far as I know.

Incidentally, my mom got into her med school 3 days before her classes started. It was her first acceptance. Talk about luck.

i dropped by admissions yesterday - apparently the big over-accepted pool has whittled down to the normal class size and they have begun pulling from the waitlist. but it's real slow...everywhere seems to be moving slow...versus last year anyway. hopefully there'll be a nice rush soon and a bunch of us will be pulled. :]

you're killing me Smalls! i figured they must have already pulling some people from the waitlist already. thanks for the update

heimerfink, did you get in off the waitlist? i saw in the allo thread that "you got the call" congrats if you did!!!

has anyone else heard anything?

i don't expect to hear from them. they told me that they expect most waitlist movement to occur by the end of june. i think that if one hasn't heard yet, there is something pritzker didn't like that one can't change by writing a letter or sending an update.

also: don't kid yourself by thinking the waitlist isn't ranked in some way internally. they know who they want.

I'm not sure if anyone is even following this thread yet, but for what it is worth, some bad news folks.

Although ~5 offers have been made to students on U of C's waitlist for acceptances to other schools, none of these students have accepted said offers - which means, you guessed it, those of us on U of C's waitlist haven't received any offers either.

It's hard to believe, but these students are passing up Hopkins, Cornell and Columbia to go to Pritzker. There has been NO, I repeat, no waitlist movement. If anyone has information to the contrary, please speak up, because I would love to believe something else.

They are not expecting any movement in the future either. Dismal news, let's hope for the unexpected.

Again, if anyone has other news, please let us all know.

that's b/c Pritzker is the best school ever.....great staff....small, so you get personal attention. the class was full as of May 15th (maybe even a little over?). they accepted more than 300 people for 109 spots. I think they used to only accept 200 or so (according to a pre med adviser's book).....

supposedly pritzker had more applications than any other med school this year too.

actually i love pritzker as much as all of you even maybe more and i'm in no way belittling your praise but i had to break it to you: 3 people have turned down pritzker since may 15th (at least 3...one for a california school, one for georgetown or cornell, and one for penn). also, as far as i know one person has been accepted off the waiting list since then (according to her). that is all. maybe more people but i'm pretty sure one person at least. so this was supposed to give you guys hope so that maybe you too will get off the wait list. hope to be classmates with you and you're right it is the best school hahah!

yeah people turn down schools for various reasons. any school in the top 20 is basically equivalent....you can probably argue most med schools are just as good as the rest. i can see why people would pick cali over chicago (cali people are obsessed with cali and hate chicago weather)....same with new york. i can't imagine anyone would ever choose G-town over pritzker...but who knows. i see why people would choose penn over pritzker, but philly sucks. chicago is a much better city.....so yeah, who knows.

What's wrong with the status portal?
"Sorry, the admission status portal is currently offline"

If my life is a sci-fi novel, am I forever trapped in an accursed dimension without pritzker? 🙁

has anyone been admitted off the waitlist?

bueller?

sorry to bludgeon a possibly already dead horse, but anyone have any news?
