I was wondering....

Which of the DO schools are private, and if they are, does that imply that they are not as competative as the state funded schools? I live in PA and the only DO schools here are LECOM and PCOM. Does it really matter at all whether private or public (besides the cost)?

thanks

If I am correct, all of them except MSU, Ohio U, Oklahoma, West Virginia, UMNDJ, and University of North Texas are all private. Private schools can be competitive (probably are) as the state school, but the restriction on state residency does not apply. It is harder for out of state resident to get into a state school.

Whether you like private or state funded schools will depend on if you like the school or not. You have to find that out for yourself.

I went to a privtae school because I didn't know where I wanted to practice when I got out. I also chose the school, not based on price or being a private school, but whether I liked all of the aspects of the school itself. Being from Missouri, I had plenty of choices within my state (KCOM, UHS, UMKC, SLU, Wash. U, and MU), but I chose out of state because this is the school that interviewed me (I think I had a snowballs chance in hell to get into Wash. U, plus I really liked the DO philosophy) and furthermore, I thought was the best choice.

In summary---go with your best choice. So rank your priorities and choose from there.
