Private lab

Does anyone have any experience with setting up a small private lab? I was thinking it might be a good option if there is a market out there, but I wonder what the competition would be like from the giants. It is kind of a neat idea to "have" your own lab (provided you do not choke on it!!!).

Problem: it costs money to set it up.

A big lab would definitely cost a lot of money. There should be some way to get a loan or some other kind of financing to get a small lab started.
