Can practicing in a state without a DO school hurt your business? I feel like most people in my state have no idea what a DO is, even pre-meds. If I had a private practice here, would I have problems staying in business? I love the idea of attending a DO school, but also love the idea of private practice. Thanks.

NO

Most people don't know what a DO is, they don't care, they just see "doctor"

Private practice is difficult to achieve these days with the governmental regulations

Your business will be determined by your savviness, not whether there is a medical school in the state.

There are plenty of DO's in Alaska who do very well.

You'll have a problem staying in business if you're a crappy doctor. DO/MD doesn't matter though.

I used to work in an office where they employed a PA and almost every patient came up to the reception desk and said they had an appointment with Dr. PA. I don't think the majority of people are paying that much attention

Most people have no idea between a MD or DO or PA or FNP/APN. They just want an adult, with a stethoscope and a white coat who know what they are talking about.
