I'm a new graduate looking to move somewhere else other than California to practice as a change of pace.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on some good cities to consider in Arizona. Some factors would include the cost of living, climate (I know it's hot there in general...obviously), demand/supply for general practitioners, and average per diem compensation rates...

Anyone have any advice?

TIA.

5 years ago you could have had your pick of locations. Arizona is quickly becoming every bit as saturated as California and Utah. Look rural.

Their may be opportunities in West Phoenix. Tucson probably has some good spots. Maybe a couple of small town areas. Otherwise its saturated. I know of several practices that are struggling in Phoenix and a couple of Dr.'s that are loosing their homes due to inability to pay the bills.

Yes, most of Arizona is saturated, BUT you can still find a job or buy a practice and make it work. I've got lots of friends who are doing associateships in the East Valley and a few who have purchased practices. You just have to do your homework to find a good opportunity.

yes, you are going to have to go rural. Practices are plentiful in the gilbert/mesa/phoenix/scottsdale areas. I have heard that there are fewer dentists out in the West valley like someone mentioned. In gilbert there are more dental practices than gas stations, to make it work you'd have to buy a successful and established practice if you wanted to practice in the Gilbert area.
