Private Practice Residencies?

Hello, i am curious which fields offer the ability to go into private practice after a considerable amount of experience? the one that come to mind are:

1. Neurosurgery
2.Family Practice


any others?

There are very few fields which don't lend themselves to private practice, although admittedly most are group practices.

I know Genera Surgeons, Psychiatrists, Pediatricians, Internists, even Anesthesiologists and Radiologists with private practices (among others).

I meant which area of medicine afforded the ability to go into private practice later in life?

I think that people are confused by your question because all fields of medicine have the majority of their practioners working in private practice. The only exception that I can think of would probably be pathologists, as many of them have to work as hospital employees even if they are private hospitals, but there are even some private pathology groups. So basically, any field you can think of allows you to go work in private practice later in life.

It depends on what you mean by "private practice." To us, private practice is any practice in which we are not employees of some large corporate entity (HMO, hospital, etc.). This includes the vast majority of physicians, though most physicians choose to practice in "groups". That is to say, a group of physicians goes into practice together to share overhead costs, call schedules, etc. even if they don't necessarily share the same physical offices.
